Iconic Hotels by Geocon today announced that a new 152-room hotel is on track to open in September this year in Canberra’s north-west.

Abode Belconnen will be the eighth property within the Abode Hotels portfolio, and tenth hotel overall for independent hotel and hospitality provider, Iconic Hotels by Geocon.

The opening comes at an unprecedented time for the travel industry, after many other hotels across the market were forced to close their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

General manager of Iconic Hotels, Rien Donkin, credits the company’s ability to push forward with the opening of its newest property to Iconic Hotels’ swift reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, which enabled the business to remain strong throughout.

While the hotel industry in general reported record lows across the past three months of the pandemic, Iconic Hotels remains positive about the future.

“The future remains strong for Iconic Hotels, with the development of more hotels and landmark destinations still very much in the pipeline,” said Mr Donkin.

“The impending opening of Abode Belconnen marks the first of many exciting milestones scheduled for the years to come,” he said.

Nick Georgalis, founder and managing director of Iconic Hotels’ parent company, Geocon, mirrors Donkin’s sentiment, stating, “every hotel opening is worth celebrating but considering the extreme challenges the industry is currently facing, this particular milestone is all the more rewarding for everyone involved.”

The hotel is part of Geocon’s Republic development, a mixed-use precinct set to home more than 3,000 residents, food and beverage venues, lifestyle shops and commercial spaces, as well as landscaped gardens and shared recreational areas.

In line with the seven existing properties within the Abode Hotels portfolio, Abode Belconnen will champion convenience, accessibility and reliability, offering guests value for money and consistent service.

The new hotel will deliver 152 stylishly appointed self-contained, apartment style rooms to the Canberra accommodation market, ideal for guests traveling for work or leisure, with several room types available to accommodate for all needs.

Guests will also have access to onsite restaurant, No.10 Restaurant + Bar, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also owned and operated by Iconic Hotels, this will be the second No.10 Restaurant + Bar to open in Canberra, with the original located at Abode Woden.

In line with the Woden venue, Belconnen’s No.10 Restaurant + Bar will offer a dynamic menu of fresh, tasty dishes in a relaxed and friendly setting, with various menu items featuring ingredients sourced from Canberra and surrounds.

Located at 3 Grazier Lane, Belconnen ACT 2617, Abode Belconnen will be the sixth Abode Hotel to open in Canberra, with the brand’s other two properties situated in New South Wales, in Murrumbateman and Malua Bay.
