The Australian Federation of Travel Agents is very pleased to announce the appointment, on a full-time basis, of Melinda Larkin, to the role of Head of Education and Training.

This new position will be an important member of the AFTA management team and will help lead and drive education and training outcomes for the travel industry on a national basis.

Melinda Larkin joins AFTA with an impeccable background in the Skills, Workforce, Education and Careers development environment having had a distinguished career herself in a range of roles, including with Family Business Australia, Service Skills Australian (now SkillsIQ), Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET) and the Australian Retailers Association (ARA). Her career has been dedicated to this area of the economy and AFTA will look to this experience as we advance the education and training needs of the travel industry in Australia.

“We are delighted to have Melinda Larkin join AFTA at this time to head our Education and Training agenda and policy areas, at a time when much more is needed to be done for the future of those working in the travel industry, and those considering joining,” said Jayson Westbury AFTA Chief Executive.

“Melinda will be able to hit the ground running as she is well versed in the many complex areas of Education and Training governance, and has an extensive network within the government, vocational education and training, and travel and tourism educators,” Westbury said.

“I am really excited to be joining AFTA and the travel industry at this important time in the evolution of skills for future careers in travel,” said Melinda Larkin.

“Travel agents and the education of the industry is paramount and I can’t wait to get started to support AFTA members and guide AFTA through the many processes and requirements to get good outcomes for all involved,” Melinda Larkin said.

Melinda Larkin will commence on a full-time basis working from the AFTA Sydney office on Monday 25th November.

The industry will no doubt welcome Melinda with open arms.
