The Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME) officially opened yesterday, getting down to work after an evening of jazz bands, acrobats and performers, as Melbourne welcomed event professionals and exhibitors from over 20 countries to connect, learn and be inspired over two days of networking, exhibition and meetings.

Victoria’s Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, welcomed all to “the world’s most liveable city” at the official AIME press conference on Monday.

Melbourne Convention Bureau chief executive Karen Bolinger said the business events industry continued to evolve – as do Melbourne’s renowned cultural delights.

“Last night Melbourne impressed attendees at the welcome event, in the stunning Ormond Collective by The Big Group. Showcasing Victoria’s vibrant festival culture, giving guests a taste of the outstanding music, theatre, dance and gastronomical delights Victoria has to offer – this is what AIME is all about, great connections and great experiences,” Bolinger said.

The show floor came alive today with interactive technology, with the use of TELEPORTIVITY powered by Worker Clicks, the roaming Selfiebot and Rentertainment’s giant picture mosaic wall.

Angela Sciacca, Project Manager, AIME, said the quality of the education program reveals the complex issues event managers are concerned with.

“The ‘Up Close and Personal’ sessions by Saxton Speakers Bureau provided powerful insights into the future of the industry with high calibre speakers including Dr Jordan Nguyen, Casey Hyun, Fill Kelly and Holly Ransom.

“The AIME Knowledge Program included renowned industry leaders on human behaviour, the global meeting and events forecast and the evolution of pop culture.

“These sessions provide critical information to our delegates who come to AIME to stay on top of their game.

“The exhibitors have delivered outstanding stands on the show floor, bringing together a colourful, engaging atmosphere to do business, learn and connect,” Sciacca said.

Other highlights from the show floor include Matt Wright the Outback Wrangler from the Wild Australia series, who visited the Northern Territory stand on Tuesday to share with buyers the magic and appeal of the NT for business travellers.

As the largest show of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, AIME is renowned for bringing together important MICE industry leaders, decision makers and influencers at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) annually for a jam-packed program. Day two of the show continues from 9am Wednesday, 21 February 2018.
