Airtasker launches skill for Amazon Alexa

January 19, 2018 Tech No Comments Email Email

Australia’s largest local services marketplace Airtasker has become one of the first Aussie companies to launch its ‘skill’ for Amazon Alexa, following her launch in Australia.

The Airtasker skill will mean Australians can now post tasks using the power of voice, making it even faster and easier to take care of things like cleaning or fixing up the garden.

In collaboration with Amazon, Airtasker’s new skill has been developed for all Alexa enabled devices such as the Amazon Echo.

Airtasker community members just need to link their account to the Alexa skill via the Alexa Skill Store and then say “Alexa, Open Airtasker”. From there, users can simply ask Alexa to post a cleaning or gardening task by saying something like “Alexa, ask Airtasker to find me a cleaner”.

Airtasker Co-Founder and CEO Tim Fung said the company’s first Alexa skill would make the platform more accessible to all users.

“Sometimes we might not be able to get everything done around the home because we’re either busy or don’t have the necessary skills or equipment. Voice technology allows for complete hands-free capability, which isn’t offered by any other channels and makes multitasking a breeze! With the new Airtasker Alexa skill it will make finding someone who can help you get things done amazingly simple.”

“We’re also really excited about the prospect of the new Airtasker skill on Alexa enabling people with a physical disability to use Airtasker – helping to broaden the community and creating a more inclusive and diverse platform.”
