The recognition of Albany’s rise in popularity has been attributed in part to the phenomenal success of the Field of Light; Avenue of Honour installation, which has exceeded all visitor projections, together with a the opportunity to showcase the region’s heritage and pristine natural attractions to new visitors.

The announcement has been warmly received by the Board of the region’s local tourism organisation, The Amazing South Coast, as an endorsement of the region’s growing popularity.  Board spokesperson Michael Cole said;

“We are delighted that Albany has been recognised in this year’s Wotif Aussie Town of the Year awards and the opportunity that this presents to showcase all of the amazing experiences in our region.”

“The Field of Light: Avenue of Honour has been a huge attraction so far with more than 80,000 visitors and will remain open until Anzac Day. Summer and Autumn are ‘event season’ on the Amazing South Coast and the perfect time to take a roadtrip south for incredible scenery, great attractions and award-winning wines.”

Mr Cole said the award was a credit to the many local tourism operators and service providers who make Albany and The Amazing South Coast a welcoming and friendly destination to visit.
