For how many years have you wanted to write a novel? One, five, ten? You are not alone. As many as 90 per cent of the population* dream of putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) and getting that story that’s been floating around their head for, like, forever, down. But how many of them actually achieve that goal? Very few. According to our research**, 55% of those people who haven’t yet fulfilled their ambition to write a book have been dreaming about it “for as long as I can remember”. With 66 per cent of these people being over the age of 35 that equates to a lot of years of wasted time.

Two key factors hinder writers’ progress: a lack of confidence (49%) – “I don’t think I’ll be any good” and a lack of spare time (49%).

Both of those factors and more are addressed at L’Atelier des ècrivains – The Writers’ Workshop, France. After our sell-out event in September 2019, places are now filling up for 14-18 May and 17-21 September 2020.

With expert tutor, Helen Cross, at the helm, each workshop is limited to just nine participants to create an intimate learning experience where everyone receives the attention they need to perfect their writing skills.

The weekend includes nine hours of writing workshops, private consultations, creative exercises, and a variety of wellbeing and inspiration sessions. Writers will also have plenty of free time to put what they have learned into practice.

Located on the edge of France’s prettiest villages, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, the accommodation is a luxurious 18th century manor house that oozes with character and charm.

Sarah Tyley, co-host at L’Atelier des ècrivains – The Writers’ Workshop, France, said: “This is our fourth workshop and we are really looking forward to welcoming our next participants. Our previous guests – some of whom have made repeat bookings – have described it as ‘life-changing’, ‘transformative’ and ‘beyond their expectations’. Indeed, several of them are now in conversations with agents, publishers and film-makers. We’re looking forward to more budding writers fulfilling their dreams in 2020!”
