This is to inform you that following the on-going Rail Network challenges – damage of the overhead power cables due to vandalism and cable theft, signal damage and failure and power outages (leading to load shedding), The Blue Train has taken a decision to amend the departure and arrival times on its Pretoria to Cape Town (and vice-versa) journeys.
The railway line between Pretoria and Kaalfontein (42 Km from Pretoria) has been completely shut down for thoroughfare by any train, whilst the Passenger Rail Association of South Africa (PRASA) continue with repairs to this line. The damage to the line is seemingly very extensive and will take months to repair.
In an effort to alleviate the inconvenience and in order to ensure that our guests’ itineraries are not further disrupted, with effect from 01 April 2020, The Blue Train’s departure and arrival times have been amended as follows:
PRETORIA – CAPE TOWN (Mondays and Wednesdays)
Departure from Pretoria Station is at 14:00 (check-in from 12:00)
Arrival at Cape Town Station is at 12:00
CAPE TOWN – PRETORIA (Thursdays and Saturdays)
Departure from Cape Town Station is at 14:00 (check-in from 12:00)
Arrival at Pretoria Station is at 12:00
****The Blue Train hereby continues to urge and advises guests not to confirm bookings for flights or make own arranged excursions preceding and subsequent to The Blue Train trip, as departure and arrival times are not guaranteed due to the complexity of a shared South African Rail Network.***
