The first lodge to be opened by andBeyond – and the largest at andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve – has received a stunning USD$2.1 million make-over that allows it to meet and exceed the expectations of today’s luxury safari traveller.

Highlights of what’s changed:

DESIGN

  • Steeped in Zulu heritage, the makeover draws inspiration from the reserve’s collection of rare Zulu beadwork with the introduction of blue to the colour palette, acknowledging the lodge’s proximity to the Indian Ocean and nearby Sodwana Bay

SPACES

Clever use of space has enhanced the lodge’s dramatic hilltop location, further showcasing the spectacular all-round views.

  • Guest suites have been updated, with the dividing wall removed to allow more light into the space
  • Guest areas have opened up, with a new feature bar celebrating artisanal spirits and South African wines
  • Refreshed dining rooms now boast a pizza oven and interactive cooking area
  • Deck of the lodge’s guest area has been extended, with an elevated walkway now linking it to a brand-new rim-flow swimming pool, gym and massage sala (open by end of Sept)
  • New wine cellar for private dinners, special occasions

FOR THE FAMILIES

  • Family suite now boasts a covered patio for guests to relax and enjoy outdoor dining regardless of weather
  • Interior also includes a guest lounge
  • Child-friendly menus and a freshly installed waffle station celebrate the lodge’s status as a family favourite

The lodge has been reopened in a staged approach, with some of the guest suites currently ready for occupation and the main pool, gym and spa scheduled to open by end September.
