Australian Regional Tourism (ART) is proud to announce the 2018 ART Convention will be held in the Tweed for the first time, from 23-25 October 2018.

The Australian Regional Tourism Convention is the most significant learning and networking opportunity of the year for industry, practitioners and government agencies engaged in regional tourism throughout Australia. It will bring together industry experts and practitioners to discuss what’s next for Australian regional tourism.

In 2018 the overarching theme is ‘pushing the boundaries’. Topics on the agenda include the federal policy industry settings, agritourism, regional aviation and the future of visitor information centres in Australia.

The convention is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, together with Roadtrippers. Destination Tweed was recently announced as the destination partner.

NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the convention will provide the perfect opportunity to put the Tweed on the map by showcasing the region’s fantastic conferencing facilities, fresh local produce and beautiful beaches.

“Known for its natural beauty, we’re delighted that the spotlight will be in on the Tweed this October when more than 150 delegates gather for the 2018 ART Convention,” Mr Marshall said.

“The tourism business is everybody’s business and the more activity across our regions means more heads on hotel beds, diners in restaurants and shoppers in boutiques, all boosting the local economy and generating more jobs.”

The Chair of ART, Simon McArthur commented: “The health of most regional Australian communities depends to some degree on their tourism industry being vibrant and competitive. To stay competitive, experts and practitioners need forums to discuss and explore new ways to innovate and advance. Our convention provides the only forum in the country focused on getting regional tourism more competitive.”

Every sector of the tourism industry is invited to attend the convention, where they will have opportunities to collaborate and investigate solutions to shared industry challenges and discuss new ideas for the future.

“Northern NSW is a regional tourism hotspot, so it’s a natural place to host our convention,” Mr McArthur said.

The convention is a must-attend event for regional tourism professionals. It’s designed for local councils, regional tourism organisations, tourism professionals, business and government personnel who wish to contribute to the future of regional tourism in Australia.
