Another new airline route to bring visitors to and from the Sunshine Coast.

It looks like Sunshine Coast Airport is arguably growing quicker in terms of routes than any other, as we all emerge from COVID-19.

With the traditional Melbourne and Sydney services well established, in recent months Adelaide, Canberra, Cairns and Newcastle, Sunshine Coast Airport have all come on line and now Sunshine Coast Airport has joined forces with Alliance Airlines and Central Highlands Regional Council to offer seats between the Sunshine Coast and Emerald to the general public.

With Alliance Airlines already having two services a week between the Sunshine Coast and Emerald as closed charter services for FIFO workers, from 1 March this year, members of the public will be able to purchase seats on the Alliance Airlines flights, with off-peak and peak fares on the route commencing at $129 and $155 respectively, with fares including taxes and 1×20 kilograms of checked baggage.

Sunshine Coast Airport Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Brodie welcomed the new arrangement and believed it would provide tremendous additional value between the two regions, adding, “We know this is an important route to support the many fly-in-fly-out mining workers who travel between Emerald and the Sunshine Coast each week,” and “Opening the service to the general public provides key business links for the mining, resource and agricultural industries, as well as serving travellers who are visiting friends and family.”

He also said, “The flights will also drive tourism in both directions, offering Sunshine Coast locals the chance to explore the natural wonders and geological surprises the Central Highlands region has to offer, including gemstone mines, Aboriginal rock art and amazing national parks like Carnarvon Gorge,” and “We expect the Sunshine Coast will be popular with Emerald residents, who will embrace our beautiful beaches, magnificent hinterland and vibrant beach towns.”

Alliance Airlines Chief Executive Officer Lee Schofield welcomed the new services, saying “We’re delighted to be offering these services to Emerald, our third new destination from Sunshine Coast Airport following our successful launch of services to Cairns and Canberra during 2020”.
