Antarctica A Hit For Viking

April 8, 2021 Cruise News No Comments Email Email

A surge in demand for Antarctica has seen Viking extend its limited time offer on the 13-day Antarctic Explorer voyage, with savings of up to $6,000 per couple, until 30 April 2021.

“Since launching our offer just over a month ago, we have seen 30% of our total Antarctica sales come through in just a few weeks”, said Michelle Black, MD Viking ANZ. “This demand shows a real appetite for expedition cruising in the Australian and New Zealand market, and is a solid start in our commitment to perfecting polar expedition cruising.”

“Viking guests are curious explorers. The past 12 months have shown that they want to continue travelling with us to familiar and iconic destinations, but they would also like to travel further. More than 60% of our total Antarctica bookings have come from our past passengers which is a testament to both their loyalty and support and their desire to get back out and explore the world”.

The new Polar Class 6 Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris will host 378 guests in 189 staterooms. Designed by the same experienced nautical architects and engineers that designed Viking ocean ships, the ships are optimally sized and built for expeditions – small enough to navigate remote polar regions while large enough to provide superior handling and stability in the roughest seas.

Esteemed explorers Liv Arnesen and Ann Bancroft will be honored as ceremonial godmothers to Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, respectively. Arnesen, a native Norwegian, became the first woman in the world to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole in 1994. Bancroft is the first woman to successfully ski to both poles. Arnesen and Bancroft also became the first women to ski across Antarctica in 2001.
