Art Moments Jakarta will be back for its second edition on 17-19 April 2020 at Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel. Building on the success of its first edition, Art Moments will introduce a medley of colorful and novel Moments programmes – titled Intimate, Converse, Eco, Prized, Maker, Barter, and Collected
Moments. These Moments aim to connect with hot button themes that have headlined
the world in recent times: equality and distribution of wealth, gender differences, cultural capital and sustainability, and environmental change.

The emergence of these fresh programmes at AMJ 2020 is the initiative of the fair’s newly appointed Artistic Director, Khai Hori. Leo Silitonga, Fair Director and Founder of Art Moments Jakarta, said, “We are excited to have Khai on board as part of our curatorial team. With his wealth of experience in the arts scene, we are confident that we can bring many world-class public programmes to uplift the fair.”

Khai Hori is an internationally renowned curator based in Singapore – he was previously the Deputy Director of Artistic Programming at the esteemed Palais de Tokyo in Paris; Senior Curator at the Singapore Art Museum, overseeing Singapore’s national collection for contemporary art; and was also Senior Curator at the Curatorial Development department of the National Heritage Board, Singapore. Khai is known for his multidisciplinary and unconventional approach to curating influenced by his past experiences in theatre and art creation.

For Intimate Moments, spectators could get up close and personal with Indonesian artist Arahmaiani, one of the most respected and iconic contemporary artists, especially in pioneering performance art in Southeast Asia. Arahmaiani will present a private performance based on her personal experience holed up in a hotel room, accompanied by a Muslim chaperon when denied entry to the US. Intimate Moments is one of the bold ideas presented by Art Moments Jakarta in differentiating itself from other art fairs.

In interactive yet cozy film-screening sessions at Converse Moments, filmmakers, artists and artisans will showcase and discuss their work with the audience in an informal and two-way, talk-back format; emphasizing the spirit of ‘nongkrong’, or ‘hang out’.

Bringing to life the intricate and endangered craft of traditional weaving, visitors should expect to get physical and hands on in the Eco Moments program showcasing Entwine, a traveling exhibition of traditional woven textiles of the Maybank Women EcoWeavers and contemporary art translations by artists.

Art Moments Jakarta is proud to hold their fair at Sheraton Grand Gandaria City Hotel, situated with great access at their mall which is frequented by over 100,000 visitors daily; and boasts a beautiful public display of museum pieces and artworks.

The fair also aims to create a new market for the arts scene. As 40% of the Indonesian population are millennials, Art Moments Jakarta aims to promote contemporary and fine art to them – there will also be more young artists from SEA that will be shown at Art Moments Jakarta 2020.

“We differentiate ourselves from other major art fairs with our in depth knowledge and our wide representation of works by Southeast Asian artists. With the growing interest and demand in Southeast Asian art, we believe that visitors and galleries to Art Moments Jakarta will gain an experience like no other. We plan to do a collaboration with JSD (Jakarta Sneakers Day), one of the largest millennial events in Jakarta. Art Moments Jakarta will have a presence in JSD event in March 2020 and JSD will have presence in Art Moments Jakarta 2020”, says Leo Silitonga.
