Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), in partnership with Village Cinemas, has launched its Drive In – Indoor Cinema, the first drive-in cinema in Australia that is weatherproof and daytime-friendly.

The timings of each screening will afford audiences more opportunities to enjoy child-friendly matinee sessions over the Summer school holidays, or later sessions for big kids and adults, wanting to enjoy some classic films in a new way, with MCEC’s Drive In – Indoor cinema held inside the venue’s enormous exhibition bays, normally known for housing global business events and pop-culture exhibitions.

With MCEC’s exhibition bays currently not in use for these events, they provide a unique opportunity for families, couples and mates to enjoy a trip to the cinema both day and night, without fear of bad weather.

The family time slots include timeless kids’ favourites such as Frozen and Shrek, as well as newly-released Trolls: World Tour.

The diverse evening program includes cinematic classics: The Breakfast Club, Clueless, Top Gun and Dirty Dancing.

With space for 174 cars, the cinema will operate under MCEC’s VenueSafe plan, to maintain physical distancing and ensure audience safety – including in-car food and beverage service via the Skip app.

MCEC’s InDoor Cinema will feature a classic Australian cinema candy bar menu – including movie-going favourites such as popcorn and choc tops – as well as ice cream and doughnuts courtesy of food trucks Nitro 196 Below and The Dough Truck.

Cost: $40 per car | For tickets: https://villagecinemas.com.au/cinemas/mcec
