SureSave, the leading provider of travel assistance and insurance in the agency channel, encourages all agents to advise their customers to purchase travel insurance that includes cancellation at the same time as booking their travel plans. http://www.germany.travel/en/index.html

Results of the 2018 SureSave Travel Insurance Index* reveals that 41% of respondents booked their last overseas leisure holiday with a travel agent (in-store, over the phone, or via email).  Of those Australians who purchased with a travel agent, a whopping 91% said their agent explained the benefits of purchasing travel insurance at the same time as booking their holiday/travel plans.

Matt Endycott, Head of Agency Sales at SureSave, says,

“Agents are clearly very aware of the crucial role that they play, ensuring that travellers are adequately covered and educated on the policy options that best suits their needs, which is very positive to hear directly from Australian travellers,” said Endycott.

The results also reveal that 32% of Australians booked their travel insurance policy on the same day that they purchased their travel plans, whilst 32% booked their policy within seven days of purchasing their travel plans.  Meanwhile, 30% waited more than seven days after booking their travel plans.

“Many customers don’t realise the major advantages of purchasing travel insurance at the first stage of the travel booking process, however it could be hugely beneficial as it can end up saving thousands of dollars.  For example, if they need to unexpectedly cancel a luxury holiday, many of the prepaid costs for the trip may be non-refundable.”

“If travellers purchase a SureSave policy with cancellation cover at the same time as booking their travel arrangements, not only can they be covered for certain events that can occur when they’re on their trip, but can also have cover if they need to rearrange or cancel their trip. We encourage all travellers to check the terms and conditions of their policy,” said Endycott.

Events you might not know you could be covered for under cancellation:

If cancellation is purchased, some of SureSave’s plans cover for certain events, including these lesser-known scenarios^:

  1. If a policy holder is made redundant from a full-time or part-time permanent position before their trip starts.
  2. If a policy holder has their pre-approved leave cancelled before the trip begins.
  3. If a policy holder’s travelling companion or someone at home becomes sick, injured or
dies, including someone temporarily managing your business interests.
  4. If a policy holder’s home in Australia is severely damaged by a natural disaster, severe weather, or fire.
  5. If a policy holder’s travel services provider (airline, hotel, bus company, cruise ship etc) becomes insolvent.  This is the case, when purchasing cancellation using SureSave’s Comprehensive, Basic and Annual Frequent Traveller plans only and does not apply to domestic policies.

^ Coverage is subject to the Term, Conditions, Limitations and Exclusions in the PDS.  Customers are required to read the PDS for terms and conditions.
