Autumn in New York State means that beautiful fall colors are on approach and we are pleased to share that the NY Fall Foliage Map is now available (included below).Unlike other similar maps, this initiative is still curated by passionate humans across the state, forgoing the use of drones, apps or fancy algorithms.

Beautiful peak and near-peak foliage continues to spread throughout the Adirondacks and Catskills regions, while peak and near-peak colors are increasing in the Central New York and Thousand Islands – Seaway regions, according to observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.

In the Adirondacks region, peak foliage will arrive in Saranac Lake in Franklin County this weekend, with 85 percent color change and bold, bright and beautiful red, purple, orange and yellow leaves. Colors are of average brilliance and include honey, goldenrod, saffron, ginger, cinnamon, russet, clementine, paprika and merlot. This weekend will provide amazing, colorful vistas for leaf peepers, hikers, bikers and boaters.

In the Thousand Islands-Seaway region, St. Lawrence County spotters reporting from Canton predict a 70 percent color change with average shades of yellow, orange and red leaves. Look for peak and past-peak conditions throughout the county. Jefferson County spotters reporting from Alexandria Bay expect near-peak foliage this weekend with a full spectrum of brilliant fall color.

In Central New York, peak foliage will reach Oneida County by the weekend, according to spotters in Utica. Look for 95 percent color change with bright yellow, orange, and red leaves. Herkimer County spotters reporting from Mohawk predict near-peak foliage this weekend with 80 percent color change and brilliant shades of red and gold.

Peak and near-peak foliage is increasing throughout the Catskills region. Spotters reporting from Catskill in Greene County and nearby areas above 2,000 feet are expecting peak foliage this weekend with nearly 100 percent of the trees changed and very brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow and burgundy.

In the Hudson Valley, Columbia County spotters reporting from Hudson predict 45-55 percent color change with yellow, gold, orange and some red leaves of average brilliance and at midpoint of change. Bright orange, red and yellow leaves are emerging from the primarily green backdrop.

In New York City, spotters reporting from Morris Park in the Bronx predict 15 percent color change by the weekend, with bright isolated areas of yellow leaves, along with some orange and red leaves.
