BIG4 Hahndorf Resort in the Adelaide Hills (South Australia) is set for a stellar 2020, having won the ‘Caravan and Holiday Parks’ category at the Australian Tourism Awards this week and with new accommodation scheduled to launch later this year.

The award follows the property’s revival in 2013, which saw its conference facilities completely renovated, and 4-Star accommodation and catering facilities built under new owners Brian and Lynn Schirripa

“We’re thrilled with this national accolade for BIG4 Hahndorf Resort and it’s a testament to the dedication of our staff, a customer-centric approach and working closely with the local Adelaide Hills community,” Mr Schirripa said of the family-owned business.

Tangible tourism benefits to the local community

“Year after year we’ve grown, and year after year we’ve increased the tourism spend to the region, which has enabled us to give back to the local community by employing more than 80% local staff, and sourcing more than 90% of produce from local suppliers.

“The 2018/19 financial year saw a stunning 102% increase in visitors, and a growing demand for our on-site state-of-the-art Adelaide Hills Convention Centre.

“We really have a remarkable team that puts customer service at the forefront of everything we do, whether our visitors are here for an epicurean weekend, a family holiday, a wedding or a corporate event,” Mr Schirripa said.

Diverse on-site facilities

BIG4 Hahndorf Resort is located only 25 minutes from Adelaide’s city centre but provides the feeling of being “a world away” with its impressive views of bushland, lakes and the Mount Lofty Ranges, while only being 800 metres from the historic town of Hahndorf.

It offers capacity and diversity through a choice of on-site facilities, services and experiences that cater for a range of ages and needs in the one picturesque property. This includes: 52 accommodation rooms with various configurations; 77 caravan and camping sites; world-class conference, wedding and event facilities; dining at the Three Gums Bistro; and on-site activities such as a swimming pool, mini-golf, games room and giant jumping pillow.

Working closely with industry

Mr Schirripa attributed Big4 Hahndorf Resort’s award win in part to the business’ involvement with organisations such as South Australian Tourism Commission, Tourism Industry Council South Australia and Adelaide Hills Tourism to promote Adelaide Hills as a destination.

The 2019 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s peak awards – recognising and promoting excellence in tourism – and were presented in Canberra at a Black-tie event on 6 March 2020. The Adelaide Hills Convention Centre also placed ‘silver’ for the ‘Business Event Venues’ category, after two consecutive Gold wins in 2017 and 2018.

“The majority of our weddings and conferences have their event at AHCC and stay on site in the BIG4 Hahndorf Resort’s accommodation rooms – it’s one of the reasons businesses and brides choose to stay with us as they can have everything in one place,” Mr Schirripa said.
