The Birdsville Races and UBET today announce a landmark partnership that sees UBET become the exclusive naming rights sponsor for the 2018 Birdsville Cup.

The 1600m UBET Birdsville Cup, billed by many as the ‘Melbourne Cup of the Outback’, is the pinnacle event of Birdsville’s two-day 13-race program, attracting a stellar field of trainers, jockeys and thoroughbreds from across the nation.

UBET’s new sponsorship sees prize money for the 136th Birdsville Cup increase to $40,000, making it the largest prize-purse in the event’s iconic history.

In another first, punters across Australia will be able to watch all of the action from the Birdsville Races live from the comfort of their lounge room, thanks to a national telecast deal with Sky Racing 2.

The new deal will see the Birdsville Races’ entire 13-race line-up telecast into homes across Australia, with half of the wagering proceeds set to be donated to the Drought Appeal to help Queensland farmers doing it tough.

With just under two weeks to go until the Birdsville Races on August 31-September 1, 2018, organisers are gearing up for the event’s biggest ever incarnation.

With a bumper race line-up and a diverse range of Outback activities and entertainment, the Races see the tiny town on the edge of the Simpson Desert swell from a general population of 115 to more than 7,000 people over the two-day bucket list extravaganza.

Birdsville Race Club Vice President Gary Brook said the partnership between UBET and the Birdsville Races was a perfect synergistic fit for both organisations.

“UBET are longstanding supporters of racing in Queensland and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Birdsville Races partnership stable,” Brook said.

Brook added: “The Birdsville Cup is the headline race on our event program, and we are excited to bring a widely-known brand like UBET on board as naming rights sponsor for this historic race.

“As part of the sponsorship, UBET will be onsite to look after racegoers’ betting needs – and punters will also be able to enjoy a bet on the Birdsville Races at any UBET outlet in Queensland and online.”

Kent Madders, Head of Brand and Marketing for UBET, said: “UBET is delighted to expand its support of such an iconic racing Carnival as Birdsville with this new partnership.

“It’s also incredibly exciting that, this year, the charm and uniqueness of racing at Birdsville will be broadcast right across Australia through live coverage on Sky Racing.

The Queensland Government, via Tourism and Events Queensland, is proud to support the Birdsville Races which features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.
