Does Emirates really own a B777 aircraft encrusted in diamonds? Just look at the photo below, from the airline’s Twitter page!

Judging by the picture below, it would seem the plane exists – so a lot of viewers, who take things at face value, assumed it to be true.

After all, the photo of the plane on the tarmac is there for all to see.

Some people were outraged.

“I mean, people are struggling and have no food or clean water, but sure let’s ‘bling’ out a plane,” tweeted one indignant viewer. Another wrote: “omg you guys are so extra”. There were questions about whether the weight of the jewels would affect the safety of the flight.

But it was all a bit of harmless fun. The photo of an Emirates airliner with the exterior decked out in diamonds was doctored – computer-generated.

“Presenting the Emirates ‘Bling’ 777,” the airline wrote on Twitter. “Image created by Sara Shakeel.”

Shakeel is the Pakistani artist famous for recreating photos of famous landmarks or pop culture icons – such as the Empire State Building and McDonald’s french fries – bedecked in crystals, along with pics of people crying showers of diamonds.

So it’s a dream plane. Don’t expect to see it at your local airport anytime soon!
