While there are many that look to climate change for being the reason for this natural disaster we are witnessing at present, one must ask is this the norm and reality for Australia, is this Business as usual?

This could sound a tad harsh but let’s face it Australia usually suffers natural disasters be it cyclones, droughts, floods, bushfires even earthquakes but in the Australian way we pick ourselves up dust ourselves off and get back to it.

As a young boy my family and I were caught in a bushfire in Kings Canyon NT, growing up in Canberra lives were lost in a flood during the 70’s, throughout my 10 years living in Queensland we were faced with many cyclones, in Sydney we faced bushfires in the Royal National Park and Lane Cove National Park and a mini tornado in Turramurra. Since moving to the foothills of the Snowy Mountains we have been faced with several bushfires and a major flood.

This is Australia we will dust ourselves off and get back to the Australian way of life, it is business as usual. People in tourism love the go terms of sustainability and resilience well all one has to do is look at an Australian and there’s the true meaning of resilience. What we need to do in this rebuild is plan for tomorrow.
