Cairns Airport CEO Norris Carter was today welcomed to the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) Board of Directors, strengthening the airport’s long term partnership with an event showcasing the region’s diverse Indigenous art and culture.

Over the past three years CIAF has welcomed more than 150,000 visitors from the Far North, Australia and abroad, shining a spotlight on the artistic talent and cultural riches of Indigenous Queensland.

CIAF chairperson Tom Mosby said the event had become a highlight of the tourism calendar, with 90 per cent of attendees agreeing that CIAF increased their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture.

Mr Mosby said he was pleased Cairns Airport would continue its affiliation with the event as sponsor of the Innovation category in this year’s prestigious Art Awards.

“We are very fortunate to secure Mr Carter’s directorship and the valuable contribution he will make propelling CIAF forward onto an international stage in its second decade,” Mr Mosby said.

“For CIAF, Cairns Airport’s affiliation with our Awards program is a truly wonderful endorsement of what we offer.”

Mr Carter said Cairns Airport was proud to increase its involvement with CIAF in 2018 and beyond, with the event offering visitors an unrivalled opportunity to celebrate the region’s Indigenous culture.

“We have been involved with CIAF since 2014 and have been impressed by its growth and engagement with locals and visitors alike,” Mr Carter said.

“The event has continued to grow in popularity amongst visitors to the region while offering a unique platform for Indigenous artists to showcase their immense talent.”
