For the first time, Camden will play host to its very own Garden Festival, with hands-on activities, workshops and talks taking place throughout the region on the weekend of September 21-23, 2018.

As many people take up gardening because of its mindfulness and environmental benefits, the program is expected to attract gardeners from within the region and further afield. With a bargain plant sale, talks from expert ‘green thumbs’ and open gardens to explore, gardeners from all walks of life will leave the event inspired and equipped.

Camden Garden Festival organiser, Emma Castle, was inspired to create the event by Macarthur’s natural beauty and the area’s horticultural credentials dating back to colonial times when pioneer John Macarthur saw the potential of the fertile land and began planting vineyards, orchards and extensive gardens, the legacy of which can still be seen today.

The first-ever Camden Garden Festival will run as part of the wider Camden Festival, a diverse program of events including Cinema Under The Stars, a TASTE Food, Wine and Music Festival, Kids’ Fun Day and the once-a-year opening of Camden Park House, one of the most important historic houses in Australia.

The Garden Festival will begin on Friday, September 21, 2018, with ‘Tea and Terrariums at Toni’s’, in which guests can enjoy home-baked Devonshire teas and make their own glass terrarium bowl to take home. In the evening, Mudgee winemaker Tim White will speak at a launch event at Upstairs at Fred’s, which will also include organic wine tasting and tapas.

Also included in the program are workshops, kitchen garden tours, an open ay at Camden Community Garden, a veggie gardening masterclass and a series of talks with local gardening and sustainability experts on topics such as organic farming, therapeutic gardening and the importance of bees for diversity. Organisers are hoping that the Garden Festival will become an annual event.
