Canada Corroboree polar bears put swimwear in shade

It’s a challenge in summertime, telling an audience about the appeal of polar bears and the Northern Lights, while people splash in a sunny swimming pool just metres away – but Canada Corroboree 2019 carried it off in style in Sydney on Thursday.

The venue was Uccello restaurant at Ivy in Sydney’s George Street, next to the pool on the fourth level.

Here travel media learned the latest Canadian travel news and innovations. The Canada Corroboree roadshow reaches travel agents, tour operators, wholesalers and media throughout Australia. This year saw 42 Canada organisations on the road, with 24 at the media lunch.

Canada Corroboree maximises the exposure of Canadian sellers to the Australian market and helps expand Canadian content in Australian partner programs.

As for polar bears, Manitoba is the polar bear capital of the world. It’s also the only Canadian region featured in this year’s Lonely Planet Top 10 regions of the world. Doreen Booth from Churchill Wild says Churchill, Manitoba, is the most accessible place in the world to view wild polar bears, either from massive tundra vehicles or on walking tours in isolated tundra lodges.

The Northern Lights are big as well – best viewed from Churchill about 2am, when the temperatures is likely to be minus 20C, with crisp skies and deep darkness. Dress warmly.

Other presenters covered the whole of Canada and its tourism product, from the grand vistas of Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver dining and the wonders of Yukon. Not to forget the Calgary Stampede, Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, ready to roll this July.
