Capture the Spectacular Flinders Ranges this Spring with Photography Weekends at Wilpena Pound

August 5, 2020 Resort News No Comments Email Email

With spring on the horizon, Wilpena Pound Resort has announced two photography weekends, allowing visitors to capture the spectacular natural landscape of South Australia’s Flinders Ranges. The new program aligns perfectly with South Australia’s latest tourism campaign, ‘You’ve Got to See It to Believe It’, but this time it’s through the viewfinder!

The three-day programs are an ideal long-weekend getaway, a chance to travel with like-minded photography-buffs and to learn tips from a professional photographer who will lead the group’s activities in the incredible Flinders Ranges landscape, famous for its panoramic views and vibrant sunsets.

Included in the photography weekends are guided drives through the diverse terrain of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, with a focus on landscape and wildlife photography. In the evenings the focus is on astrophotography, an ideal subject for the region’s clear outback skies free of clouds and city lights. Participants also have the chance to try out some of the newest camera gear to take their photography to the next level.

Dates for the photography weekends are Friday 18 – Sunday 20 September and Friday 9 – Sunday 11 October 2020.  Rates for the photography weekends are $395 per person for the program including 2 ½ days’ photography tuition and a morning’s Adobe Lightroom workshop. Accommodation and dining at Wilpena Pound Resort’s hotel, glamping or camping facilities are additional; photographers enrolling in the photography workshops receive a 20% saving on weekend bed and breakfast rates at the time of booking. Group numbers are limited to 12 participants.

Wilpena Pound Resort is located some 430km north of Adelaide in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Ikara Wilpena Pound is Adnyamathanha Yarta or Country. Located in the heart of the National Park, Wilpena Pound Resort offers visitors guests a first-hand, personal experience of the ancient landscape, delivered through the perspective of the region’s Traditional Owners, the Adnyamathanha people. The resort comprises a 60-room hotel, Ikara Safari Camp with 15 glamping tents and a large campground. South Australia’s largest mountain range, the Flinders Ranges dates some 800 million years and is recognised worldwide for its geological history and impressive Ediacaran fossils. A state-led bid to have the Flinders Ranges inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list is currently underway.
