From immigrants to online innovators: the Leibovich brothers are an Australian success story. From modest beginnings, the business skills that Gabby and Hezi learned came from practical experience and sheer hard work. They got to know about customers, buying and selling, and creating interest in a product as youngsters helping at the family’s weekly electronics stall at Croydon markets (attendance was non-negotiable) and later at the family business Panasales. In those days, a sale was made in person and in real time. Then the high-speed internet came along.

The internet opened a whole new world for entrepreneurs; Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Facebook’s Mark Zukerberg and Catch sits comfortably alongside these household names. Catch, Scoopon, Bon Voyage, Grocery Run, Mumgo, EatNow, MenuLog and Luxury Escapes are some of the iconic brands the Leibovich brothers either built or developed. But this success didn’t happen overnight.  Catchoftheday was launched in October 2006, offering just one deal a day. By 2010 it had become Australia’s most-visited online shopping site. In 2017 the site added a marketplace capability in order to compete with eBay and Amazon, and was rebranded Catch.com.au. In August 2019 Catch.com.au was sold for $230 million to Wesfarmers. Today, Catch employs over 500 staff and has annual revenue exceeding $500m.

Catch of the Decade is practical and entertaining: the facts and results speak for themselves and include honest advice from two people who’ve been there and done it. They share early lessons and recount a couple of spectacular (and funny) failures. In their individual, no-nonsense way Gabby and Hezi share hard-hitting wisdom for people who are ambitious multi-taskers with short attention spans.  Their insights will help you sharpen your business learning curve, and inspire you to bring your own business dream to life.

The brothers are colourful characters in the fabric of Australian society and are real ‘outside the box’ thinkers – no idea is dismissed by them out-of-hand, they are big idea thinkers and do-ers. This can be evidenced by them asking Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld) to be a brand ambassador for Catch.  He accepted and it was considered a stroke of marketing genius which helped successfully launch the brand.

The Leibovich’s entrepreneurial journey is condensed into a compelling story that is never academic or theoretical, full of bite-size, practical nuggets of information; perfect inspiration on those tough-to-get-moving days. The book is designed to be picked up and dipped into at any time and is applicable to anyone in any business.
