Air New Zealand’s Grabaseat Party Gras flight is officially in the air and has sashayed into celebrations ahead of this weekend’s Sydney Mardi Gras 2020 festival.Customers on the charter flight were met at the gate by iconic New Zealand drag queens Buckwheat and Tess Tickle and were treated to a spectacular pre-boarding show which set the scene for the Auckland to Sydney flight.

Air New Zealand Inflight Service Manager A320 and Pride Network member Liam Connolly says the flight is yet another fantastic way for the airline to celebrate Pride month.

“Myself and the crew onboard are so excited to help kick off the celebrations as Kiwis make their way to one of Sydney’s most iconic events on the Pride calendar. As a member of the Pride Network at Air New Zealand, I feel so fortunate that I can come to work and not only express who I am but celebrate that with everyone on board – today and every day.”

While in the air, customers can expect the fabulousness to continue with Buckwheat and Tess Tickle hosting rounds of ‘bingay’, a fashion show, a rainbow themed service as well as prizes up for grabs.

Air New Zealand established its Pride Network for rainbow employees in 2013, and since then has been a supporter of numerous pride events such as the Auckland, Wellington and Vancouver Pride parades, Big Gay Out, and the Auckland Rainbow Dog Show.

The airline is proud to have been awarded the Rainbow Tick Accreditation in 2019, which deems Air New Zealand a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for people of diverse gender identity and sexual orientations.
