The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and its Bali International Convention Centre hosted an inspiring afternoon gathering on Wednesday, 20th March 2019 to pay tribute to women and the role they play in society. This meaningful event was held in acknowledgement of International Women’s Day that took place earlier this month and Kartini Day, a national day coming up in April that honors the empowerment of Indonesian women.

Celebrating Women was an opportunity for ladies (as well as a few brave gentlemen) to connect over a series of talks, tea and sweet treats. It was an uplifting get-together that essentially nourished the spirit and fed the mind with information that is all so relevant in today’s modern world.

The event commenced with a brief speech from Gaye Warren, Founder of Bali Pink Ribbon. This non-profit organization educates local women about breast cancer awareness and provides support for sufferers. Gaye presented an overview about the outreach program currently being carried out by Bali Pink Ribbon whereby screenings are helping women access urgent medical care for this deadly disease.

To lighten the mood, a vibrant fashion parade by REE Indonesia showcased a collection affordable clothing items designed to make women look and feel fabulous. This stylish range of daily wear is proudly produced in Indonesia to cater to every body shape and personality.

The highlight of the event was a series of informal talks expertly moderated by Co-Founder and Creative Director of WordPix Asia, Tressabel Hutasoit. She was joined on the stage by four keynote speakers who covered topics ranging from career advice to life experiences, wellness, family obligations and female entrepreneurship.

Editor in Chief for Femina Magazine, Petty S. Fatimah, shared details about her career history in the publishing industry. TV host and celebrity marathon runner, Melanie Putria, gave a moving account about her personal health journey and the importance of exercise. Happy Salma, a renowned Indonesian actress and owner of an artisan jewelry brand, touched on how she came from a family of strong and independent working women. Lastly, Riana Bismarak, former hotel executive and current fashion entrepreneur, shared her secrets for success.

An artistic array of tea time treats were created especially for the event by The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali’s female pastry extraordinaire, Chef Mimin Mintarsih. There was also a fundraising stall by Bali Pink Ribbon, beauty tips & make overs from T Galleria by DFS, Heavenly Spa by Westin massage corner, and a lucky draw with lots of great prizes.

To close the event, Mr. Oriol Montal, General Manager of The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, spoke about his boyhood experience of growing up in a male dominated society in his native Spain. Now as a loving husband and father of two small daughters, he has a better understanding about women and is proud to work for a company like Marriott International that stands for gender equality.

The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali would like to express its appreciation to REE Indonesia, FOCUS, T Gallery by DFS for making the Celebrating Women event possible. Special thanks also go out to media partners such as FEMINA, HardRock FM Bali, Pinguin FM and What’s New Bali for their support.
