Australia’s favourite reality program, The Block, returns to Nine on Sunday, August 5, at 7.00pm. Five ambitious couples will tackle the biggest construction in Block history as they transform the iconic Gatwick Hotel into five luxury apartment spaces over 11 gruelling weeks, with a budget of $220,000.

The Gatwick building is located on Fitzroy Street, St Kilda in Melbourne, and the local community and Fitzroy Street traders welcome the award-winning TV show to their neighbourhood.

“There is a certain buzz and hype in the area since work began on the building, it has really lifted spirits of many traders and locals” says Roger Wyndham – President of the Fitzroy Street Business Association.

“St Kilda is undergoing a major revitalisation with a number of significant redevelopments that will place it firmly on the map as a major tourist destination,” continues Wyndham.

Other major developments in St Kilda include the re-opening of the famous Esplanade Hotel, redevelopment of St Kilda’s Novotel Hotel and the nations first Pride Centre.
