Pioneering wellness resort, Chiva-Som, recently hosted its first ‘Wellness Journey Fundraising Gala Dinner’ at the acclaimed property’s newly refurbished Taste of Siam restaurant

The event was held to raise funds for Krailart Niwate, a mangrove preservation and environmental wellness project to protect Hua Hin’s last remaining mangrove forest.

The gala dinner presented an innovative wellness-inspired culinary collaboration of Chiva-Som’s Executive Chef, Sinchai Srivipa with Michelin Star Chef, Dan Bark from Upstairs Mikkeller Restaurant in Bangkok.

The Krailart Niwate project, started in 2007, is an environmental wellness project under the Preserve Hua Hin Foundation spearheaded by Mr. Krip Rojanastien, Chairman and CEO of Chiva-Som, and the Preserve Hua Hin Group under the Royal patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Mangrove forests provide nursery grounds for fish, crabs, shellfish, and shrimp, and feeding grounds for birds and monkeys.

In the past half century, however, mangrove forests have been rapidly diminishing worldwide due to commercial development and the expansion of shrimp and salt farms.

Chiva-Som is the environmental preservation steward of Hua Hin’s last remaining urban mangrove forest and more than 5000 trees have been planted in the forest by various stakeholder groups since 2007.

Chiva-Som sponsored construction of the 1000 metre elevated boardwalk throughout the ecosystem in 2015 to promote eco-spiritual tourism in the region and to raise awareness of the important roles of mangrove ecosystems in our world.

Chiva-Som can be reached by car in under three hours, private plane in 25 minutes from Bangkok and chartered helicopter in 40 minutes from Bangkok.
