Club Med announces Meituan Travel partnership to provide users with a one-stop vacation booking service

World-renowned holiday group Club Med and Meituan Travel announced today a global partnership on the theme of “Quality life, amazing you” at Club Med Joyview Golden Coast resort. Club Med Meituan Travel flagship store was officially launched and the two companies have shared data & opened the direct connection: consumers can now search real-time room availability of Club Med resorts through Meituan Travel.

Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med, Gino Andreetta, CEO Greater China of Club Med, Mr. Guo Qing, Vice President of Meituan Dianping Group and General Manager of Meituan Travel Accommodation Division, and He Tao, Vice President of Derby Software, General Manager of China Division attended the conference.

Founded in 1950, Club Med operates more than 70 Club Med resorts in 30 countries in the world and has more than 60 years in holiday management and innovation experience. Club Med has been present in China since 2003. From 2004 to 2016, the number of guests in China has maintained a growth rate of 30% per year. Currently, there are three product segments in the world which are Club Med Premium All-inclusive, Exclusive Collection and Club Med Joyview, which especially tailors to the needs of modern Chinese travellers. Club Med Joyviews are always located in beautiful and unique places, easily accessible within 2 to 3 hours by car from the Chinese metropolis to create premium short vacation experiences for guests. Club Med Premium All-inclusive resorts are located in Yabuli, Guilin, Sanya, and Beidahu; Club Med Joyview Golden Coast and Club Med Joyview Anji are the two first openings this January of the new Club Med Joyview segment.

Meituan Travel is a one-stop travel platform owned by Meituan Dianping, unveiled in April 2017. The Meituan Travel app launched soon after in September. Up to now, it covers 340,000 domestic hotels, nearly 300,000 oversea hotels, 20,000 scenic spots, more than 70,000 short distance routes, 100,000 overseas air routes and 215 national stations. These products are easily accessed through a number of categories including “hotels”, “Bed & Breakfast”, “scenic spots tickets”, “short distance travel”, “air tickets”, and “leisure and entertainment”. In 2017, Meituan Travel sold over 200 million room nights and their ticket sales exceed 100 million.

The cooperation of Meituan Travel and Club Med will see complementary resources pooled to expand the depth of user experience for both companies, enhancing services as Chinese demand for travel and accommodation increases. The seamless sharing of data will help to define a more comfortable holiday booking experience by removing complex choices and delivering a more personalized service through the use of innovation and technology.

As millennials in China are no longer merely satisfied with just the notion of a holiday, but now insist on more authentic and richer experiences, Meituan Travel has focused on providing higher-quality options for its users. The global partnership between Meituan Travel and Club Med reflects this change, as the increasing use of innovation and redefinition of how the Chinese enjoy their holidays is driving market consumption in the travel sector.

Meituan Travel and Club Med also released the Millennial Consumer Behaviour Report which shows an extremely high rate of consumption amongst those born between 1984 and 2000, gradually establishing these millennials as the main force of high-end consumption in China. The pursuit of quality, a desire to explore, and a preference to have a relaxing vacation when on holiday are distinct characteristics of this group. Meituan Travel and Club Med have come together to create quality travel services for millennials in China.
