AYANA Komodo Resort, Waecicu Beach will be the first five-star resort to open on the exquisite Labuan Bajo, Flores.

The much-anticipated hotel opening has created a buzz across the archipelago, as well as globally with eager jet-setters waiting to check a trip to the Komodo Islands, and a stay at AYANA, off their bucket list. With a reputation that exudes luxury, genuine care, and first-class service, AYANA is a brand that appeals to many holidaymakers and world travelers, as well as business clientele and romantics.
Accompanying the grand opening is a deeper level of care initiated by the independently owned brand, who pledges to set the benchmark in nurturing their ecosystem in East Indonesia. The new resort has introduced a series of interesting and impactful initiatives to protect the resort’s surrounding land and sea while actively educating guests on the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness.
“‘AYANA Cares’ is the motto that pulses through the AYANA brand and there is no greater time for us to take more impactful strides towards caring for our planet,” explains AYANA Komodo Resort General Manager, Fernando Arroyo. “The new hotel doesn’t just represent the opening of 205 new rooms, it represents the opportunity for us to open our minds about the way we contribute to the environment, with a collective aim for this positive approach to ripple through to our team members, guests, and even our competitors.”

Upcoming initiatives include:

Marine Biology Expert – AYANA understands that caring for the ocean isn’t a 9 – 5 job, therefore, the resort has introduced resident Marine Biologist Jingjing Yan. Jingjing, who holds a Masters in Biological Oceanography and worked in the field of Marine Biology in Europe and the Maldives, will study the reef’s biodiversity and join guests on designated excursions as well as providing education and awareness on protecting the ocean and marine life through regular workshops and presentations.
Children’s Programs – AYANA Kid’s club will offer a series of fun activities including weekly coral planting programs. The Kid’s Club will also feature fun craft activities using recycled material and invite families to participate in regular beach clean ups.
Local Education – There is no greater ambassador than the local community, and the AYANA Family will invest resources in visiting schools to educate younger societies on the importance of proper rubbish disposal and caring for marine life.
Sustainable Sourcing – Each morning AYANA’s chefs will purchase the best catch of the day from local fishermen. Delivered directly to the resort’s Naga Pier, the best pick will be presented to AYANA before being sold at local fish markets; creating a wonderful way to stock the resort’s 6 restaurant outlets and ensure a thriving business relationship with local fishermen.
Local Investment – In addition to the environmental initiatives, AYANA will contribute to the foundations of the community by committing to a donation of US$ 1.00 from every room sold to Komodo National Park. The much-needed funds will be used to purchase new uniforms, including hats and shoes, for National Park Rangers, support their training, and go towards the renovation of bathrooms.
