A report in the Straits Time says that a Singaporean woman who was infected by coronavirus during her pregnancy, gave birth this month to a baby with COVID-19 antibodies against the disease.

The Straits Times  report says that while not much is known about the baby, the baby was born this month without COVID-19, but with the virus antibodies.

Mother Celine Ng-Chan told the paper, “My doctor suspects I have transferred my COVID-19 antibodies to him during my pregnancy,”, with Ng-Chan mildly ill from the disease and discharged from hospital after two-and-a-half weeks.

So, can COVID-19 and its antibodies spread from mother to baby during pregnancy, with this reported to be one of the most important questions about the nature of the disease?

Unfortunately, the answer isn’t all that clear, with the World Health Organisation saying it is not yet known whether a pregnant woman with COVID-19 can pass the virus to her foetus or baby during pregnancy or delivery.
