Set to open in 2019, the first multi-island integrated leisure and entertainment destination in the Maldives, CROSSROADS by Singha Estate; will transform the Maldives’ tourism experience and expand the country’s appeal as a multifaceted tourism destination with its capability to cater to a wider range of visitors, including medium to upscale family market, lifestyle seekers, eco-tourists and MICE travellers. The project highlights Singha Estate’s commitment to overcome an array of challenges to bring the company closer towards the vision to become a ‘Global Holding Company’ by adding to its portfolio in high-yield tourist destinations around the globe.

Transforming Maldives’ Tourism Experience

With the Maldives reigning as the ultimate global destination coupling with the recent infrastructure expansion in the tourism sector, Singha Estate is seeing a rapid increase in demand and potential sales among local and international visitors. Mr. Naris Cheyklin, Chief Executive Officer, Singha Estate PLC, said, “As the Maldives becomes more accessible, so does CROSSROADS. Also, since commuting to our islands requires no seaplane, visitors will be able to save time and cost, thus making every minute in the Maldives count.”

Expanding Singha Estate’s Hospitality Portfolio

The completion of CROSSROADS will enable S Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Singha Estate, to tap into the ever-growing potential of the Maldives’ tourism sector. 2019 will see the opening of The Marina @ CROSSROADS which will offer an exciting collection of restaurants and bars, boutique stores, and event hall, as well as Maldives’s first luxury yacht marina, along with two resorts: SAii Lagoon Maldives (Curio Collection by Hilton) and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. This will raise Singha Estate’s hospitality business portfolio to a total of 4,647 room keys by the end of 2019, with 39 distinctive properties catered to visitors in global tourist destinations.

Building a Harmonious Co-existence

The booming of tourism presents an alluring economic opportunity for the Maldives, but also a challenge to the preservation of their delicate natural resources. Mr. Dirk De Cuyper, Chief Hospitality Officer, S Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Singha Estate PCL, said, “Singha Estate is committed to sustainable development in all the countries in which we operate. At CROSSROADS, we continue our sustainability initiatives in the Maldives, especially with the opening of Maldives Discovery Centre and Marine Discovery Centre, which promote the way of life of local communities and the beautiful marine biodiversity. The centre will also educate tourists and all stakeholders on coral conservation and rehabilitation. Once opened, the project will introduce new facet of ecotourism experience to the Maldives, where visitors will be educated on how to keep the marine life abundance and beautiful.”
