The breathtaking Niagara Falls, the motor city of Detroit, bustling Chicago and the picturesque Great Lakes all feature on a new, eight-night cruise package offered by boutique American cruise company, Victory Cruise Lines. Australians can save up to US$1600 per couple if they book a cruise by September 30, 2019.

The largest group of freshwater lakes on the planet, North America’s Great Lakes hold 20 percent of the Earth’s freshwater and are known for their ocean-like features such as rolling waves, distant horizons and strong currents. Covering an area of 244,000 square kilometres –  roughly the size of the UK – they also boast fishing ports, surfing beaches, car-free islands, the largest freshwater sand dunes in the world, a ghost town, and even an island which itself has several smaller lakes on it – a lake in a lake.

Australians can visit this fascinating region on any of Victory’s eleven ‘North America’s Coastal Connection’ cruises available from Niagara Falls to Chicago between May and August, 2020.

The adventure begins with a complimentary hotel stay at Niagara Falls, which guests can explore at their leisure before boarding Victory II – an agile and intimate ship that easily navigates canals, locks, bays and hidden ports where larger ships cannot go. Guests will cruise through Lake Erie – known for its own version of the Loch Ness Monster, Bessie – before visiting Cleveland and journeying on to Detroit, where they visit the Institute of Arts, the Motown Museum, the historic district, or they can explore the history of the automotive industry at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation.

From there, the ship will make its way through Lake Huron towards Mackinac Island, where guests can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the world and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage tour of the car-free island, known for its delicious fudge and historic fort.

The journey continues to Green Bay, with its wineries, craft breweries, boutiques and fresh sea fare, and Muskegon – known for its rich maritime history and beautiful beaches. Guests then disembark in Chicago, with its striking architecture, delicious cuisine, famous museums, festivals and sports stadiums.

Including all onboard meals, free-flowing drinks, shore excursions with local guides at every port, shipboard Wi-Fi, onboard gratuities and port taxes, the eight-night North America’s Coastal Connection cruise package is available from US$3874  per person, twin-share, including the US$800 discount per person if booked by September 30, 2019. Eleven departures are available between May and August, 2020. The US$800 discount is available on selected departures.
