Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) is proud to have welcomed Vasco da Gama into Sydney yesterday as she began her first Australasian season.

The ship’s inaugural season coincides with CMV’s ten-year anniversary this year and marks the cruise line’s largest Australasian deployment yet.

“We are thrilled to have Vasco da Gama joining us in Sydney this weekend for the first time,” said Managing Director of Cruise & Maritime Voyages Australia, Dean Brazier.

“Cruise & Maritime Voyages has a high level of repeat patronage and Vasco da Gama offers a range of new options to our guests, accommodating the increased demand for the traditional, small ship cruising that we are known for.”

Vasco da Gama has a 1,220 guest capacity and will homeport in Adelaide and Fremantle, also cruising from London (Tilbury), Auckland, Sydney and Singapore.

The ship offers two gorgeous pools, the well-equipped Jade Wellness Centre and Spa, a two-tiered theatre, and five inviting bars and lounges. Six dining venues feature cuisine from around the world and the ‘Chef’s Table’ provides a degustation menu plus an insight into the workings of the galley.

During Vasco da Gama’s first Australasian season, the cruise line will champion domestic tourism by making key regions like Tasmania, the North West of Australia, and the Yorke Peninsula (South Australia) more accessible and more affordable for guests to experience. Vasco da Gama travellers a chance to experience parts of Australia that they may not have considered before.

“This season, Vasco da Gama will be the world’s first dedicated passenger cruise line to visit South Australian port Wallaroo and is also the first cruise line to visit four South Australian ports in one voyage,” continued Mr Brazier.

“Our themed voyages on board Vasco da Gama this season, the Boutique Gin and Culinary Cruise and Fringe on the Water in particular, have seen a phenomenal response, with our product being introduced to new markets that may have not previously considered Cruise & Maritime Voyages.

Vasco da Gama is expected to carry an extra 5,900 guests throughout the 2019/20 season compared with CMV’s previous Australasian season, though the ship will still have the intimate, country-club-like atmosphere on board that CMV is known for.”

In the ship’s 2020/21 seasonCMV will make compelling domestic destinations even more accessible to Australians, visiting ports of call that are new to the cruise line, such as Darwin, Geelong and Port Arthur.

Vasco da Gama also provides a great opportunity for guests to “go it alone” with 40 cabins for solo travellers, guest meet-ups and a ship full of like-minded guests and friendly staff.  Guests are encouraged to come aboard Vasco da Gama during her first CMV season this December and enjoy her warm and personable atmosphere for themselves.
