Spring is a spectacular time to experience the glories of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Adriatic, and Peter Sommer Travels has a range of options to cruise the seas in a traditional wooden gulet as well as two tours that also include walking through stunning European landscapes rich in history and epicurean delights.

Three highlights on offer this spring are:

  • Cruising The Dalmatian Coast: From Šibenik to Zadar is an eight-day historical and cultural tour of one of Croatia’s most diverse coastal regions, quieter and less frequented than the south, the region offers a dazzling mosaic of cultural and historical attractions. Guests will enjoy beautiful Šibenik, graced with its magnificent UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral and a trio of mighty fortresses as well as Zadar’s Venetian walls that protect a breathtaking heritage. The trip also includes the Krka Valley’s beautiful waterfalls. Led by archaeologist Professor Helena Thomas, this itinerary has its own distinctive pace and character, fashioned to the region and sites it explores. Departs September 8, 2018 with fares from £3,495* per person (approximately AU$6,200).
  • Cruising The Carian Coast – from Mediterranean to Aegean offers a marvelous combination of superb archaeological sites and a remarkably beautiful maritime landscape – a stretch of Turkey’s ‘Turquoise Coast’ that so far remains mostly untouched by tourism and modern developments. Starting in Göcek, a quiet resort town in a lovely setting on the Gulf of Fethiye, this cruise follows the shoreline of Caria, made up of deep inlets and long peninsulas forming a complex and diverse geography. The cruise ends at the lively harbour of Bodrum, ancient Halicarnassus and the birthplace of Herodotus. Tour guide Professor Julian Bennett will bring this adventure to life over eight days, departing September 15 and priced from £2,475 (approximately $AU4,390).
  • Walking and Cruising Southern Dalmatia is an eight-day adventure, a gulet cruise combined with walks through the region’s beautiful landscape, rich in history and culture. At Ston, a walk atop the 14th century 5km long wall offers views of valuable salt pans and vineyards, while on Mljet paths connect historical sites ranging from prehistory to Roman and medieval. On Hvar, guests explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Stari Grad Plain, a living archaeological landscape. Guided by Professor Helena Thomas, this tour departs on September 29 with fares from £3,495 per person (approximately AU$6200).
