The Beverly Hills Hotel has completed a comprehensive restoration and thoughtful redesign of 21 of its historic bungalows. Steeped in history as the preferred “home away from home” for generations of Hollywood royalty, the newly restored bungalows create a nostalgic and transporting experience for guests.

Out of the 21 bungalows there are distinct legendary bungalows featuring design elements inspired by select notable guests who have frequented the hotel over the past century. Bungalow 22, inspired by Frank Sinatra was finished in the summer of 2016. Bungalow 1, inspired by Marilyn Monroe and Bungalow 3 inspired by Howard Hughes were unveiled in January 2019; and Bungalow 9, inspired by Charlie Chaplin was completed in December 2019.

The eclectic and quirky persona behind frequent hotel guest Charlie Chaplin comes to life in Bungalow 9, which celebrates the world’s most famous silent screen star. Combining classic design elements and subdued hues with character pieces and movie-palace architecture, an expressive collage of different materials and shapes are interwoven throughout each room. Quiet nods to the entertainer’s English roots reveal themselves through the curation of elegant patterns.  Wall-to-wall carpets add cohesion to the space, which includes an open kitchen that is ideal for entertaining.

Guests staying in Bungalow 9A will appreciate the following Charlie Chaplin-themed services and amenities:

  • A library featuring classic Charlie Chaplin books
  • The Chaplin Cocktail kit, made with sloe gin, apricot brandy, lemon juice, served in a highball glass topped with club soda
  • A chocolate dessert served upon arrival inspired by Charlie Chaplin highlighting his career such as a chocolate shoe paying homage to his role in “The Gold Rush.”

First introduced in 1915 to accommodate families that wanted more space and privacy, the iconic bungalows remain an important part of the hotel’s character. They are known the world over for their history with Hollywood royalty and colorful anecdotes, which include Marilyn Monroe staying in Bungalow 1 and 7, Howard Hughes spending over 30 years in Bungalow 4 and Marlene Dietrich calling them home for several years.

Designed exclusively to enhance the feeling of effortless and modern Californian style while maintaining the property’s existing residential feel, the bungalows include color palettes inspired by warm Southern California tones, such as rust, pinks, greens and golds. Furniture styles include a mix of tailored 40’s French and Hollywood Regency, enhancing the bungalows welcoming layout and design. Key finishes include decorative wallpapers, custom embroidered panels, hand-stenciled patterns, intricate floor inlays, and silk accent pillows. State-of-the-art technological upgrades, such as light and temperature control panels and premier Bang & Olufsen TVs, are also being made.
