Emirates announces the top five destinations Brisbane locals travelled to over the last 15 years, with Europe securing four out of the five destinations. London Heathrow ranked first, followed by Rome, Singapore, Paris and Manchester rounding out the top five, proving Brisbane locals are truly global citizens.

The newly released data comes as the airline celebrates 15 years of connecting Brisbane to the world, having commenced services in October 2003. Since its inaugural flight, Emirates has carried passengers to and from Brisbane, connecting the coastal city to the world with three flights a day to Dubai and beyond.

“It’s no surprise to see that Europe secured four of the five top destinations over the last 15 years given Australian’s natural affinity towards its diverse and rich culture. While Singapore offers travellers the option of a weekend getaway or a holiday in itself, with its proximity being a major drawcard for many,” said Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President Australasia.

“Brisbane is an important part of the Emirates success story in Australia and we’re pleased to be celebrating 15 years of flying to this destination. We started with a Boeing 777 aircraft flying seven times a week. We now operate both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 777 across three flights daily, illustrating the strong demand from customers in the Brisbane market,” said Mr Brown.

Emirates flies to more than 40 European destinations in its global route network, with the addition of Edinburgh and London Stansted this year. This highlights the airline’s continued demand for its superior product offering across Europe.

At the same time, Emirates continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Australian market, adding a third daily Brisbane service in December last year. On 2 September 2018, Emirates also reintroduced its iconic A380 aircraft on flights EK434 and EK435, operating between Brisbane and Dubai.

Emirates operates 91 flights per week to Dubai from Australia. Emirates’ services operate from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, including nine daily A380 flights. The airline also offers passengers generous baggage allowances, gourmet dining and 20MB complementary onboard Wi-Fi across all classes.

The destinations are based off the top five destinations from Emirates’ global route network that it currently operates to.
