Emporium Hotel South Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of John McIlwain as General Manager for their multi-award winning luxury boutique hotel in Brisbane.

With over 20 years of hotel leadership and 30 years in the hospitality industry, McIlwain is the ideal candidate suited to take the helm of Emporium Hotel South Bank.

McIlwain’s resume boasts an impressive history of employment across internationally renowned hotels, including Rydges Group in New Zealand and across Australia, and most recently, General Manager of Operations for QT Hotels, Atura Hotels and Rydges Hotels in New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Returning to Queensland with his family after more than 20 years, McIlwain is excited to put down roots in the Sunshine State, and catapult Emporium Hotel South Bank into this third year of operations.

“I am excited to see the amount of high-end developments sweeping across Brisbane, and am thrilled to be heading up this luxury boutique hotel in the heart of the bustling, sophisticated and ever-evolving city,” he said. “With it’s premium location along the Brisbane River and surrounded by arts, culture, food and entertainment, Emporium Hotel is leading the charge in bringing luxury stays and exceptional dining experiences to the people.

“The best is yet to come for this budding metropolis, and I am certain Emporium Hotel will be leading the pack in cementing Brisbane on the map as an exciting destination.”

With his extensive experience across Australia and New Zealand with a focus on supporting and leading teams he is the right person to steer this hotel into the next phase of its development as one of Queensland’s premier privately owned boutique hotels.”
