The NBL Europcar Referees’ will proudly wear a purple shirt this weekend instead of their trademark Europcar green for Round 11 of the Hungry Jacks’ NBL season.

The South East Melbourne Phoenix and Cairns Taipans will battle in a game that will aim to raise awareness and funds to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The Starlight game has been created by South East Melbourne Phoenix, who will be wearing Purple shoelaces during the game and are proud partners of Starlight. The game has the full support of the National Basketball League who will give broadcast coverage to the charity game.

The Purple Starlight Referees are a season first, a charity the NBL is proud to align in conjunction with Europcar on.

Starlight brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and young people through a range of programs, including Wishgranting and Starlight Express Rooms, which are available in every major children’s hospital in Australia.

A Starlight Wish is a dream come true for a sick kid or young person, giving them and their families something exciting to look forward to during treatment. The experience of sharing a once-in-a-lifetime Starlight Wish brings families together and some positivity into their lives.

Ionie Felmingham, Head of Marketing Europcar Mobility Group Australia and New Zealand said “We are delighted to be part of this wonderful initiative to raise awareness of a charity that does wonderful work brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families. We hope that having the referees stand out in purple will lead to greater support of Starlight and the fantastic work they do”.

“This is a great opportunity for basketball fans to get behind an important charity and we’re thrilled that Phoenix has welcomed us to support their starlight game” she added.

Europcar is the official car rental brand partner of Starlight and Starlight is the official charity partner of South East Melbourne Phoenix, with all involved seeing this weeks’ game as the perfect opportunity to bring awareness to the charity.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Starlight for Sunday’s game against the Cairns Taipans” said South East Melbourne Phoenix General Manager Tommy Greer. “Starlight does amazing work with seriously ill children and their families, and we want as many of our fans as possible to come along to the game and get behind the Starlight Foundation.”

The Starlight game between South East Melbourne Phoenix and the Cairns Taipans takes place on Sunday, December 15 at Melbourne Arena at 5.00 pm
