Explore the Viking shores of Iceland and Greenland in 2021

May 20, 2020 Cruise No Comments Email Email

Australians seeking adventure in 2021 can cruise the same seas and explore the same horizons as the Vikings once did as part of an expedition voyage offered by Adventure Canada and Australian small ship specialists, Cruise Traveller, which are offering a 15 per cent discount and supplement-free fares for singles for bookings made by June 1, 2020. Special relaxed booking conditions are also on offer.

The new 12-night ‘In the wake of the Vikings’ package includes a free one-night’s stay in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik pre-cruise. The package begins in Reykjavik, Iceland, on July 12, 2021, and includes one-night’s pre-cruise accommodation in Reykjavik and an 11-night cruise to Greenland, the world’s least densely populated destination, with just 0.03 people per square kilometre.

Guests will travel aboard Adventure Canada’s 198-passenger expedition ship, Ocean Endeavour, beginning their journey with a short stop at the volcanic Vestmannaeyjar islands of Iceland, home to Eldfell, the youngest volcano in the world. The expedition follows the journey that the Vikings made a millennium ago as the Ocean Endeavour makes its way across the Denmark Strait to the icy realm of Greenland.

Highlights of the cruise include:

– visiting Prince Christian Sound, where narrow sharp peaks surround both sides of the vessel and icebergs emerge from the water’s surface

– Hvalsey church – the best-preserved Norse ruin in Greenland, with the last known official record of a Norse wedding dating back to 1408.

– Brattahlid, a World Heritage site that was once home to the famous Viking explorer, Erik the Red.
– Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, bridges old and new with modern shopping, restaurants and cafés lining the streets as well as the Greenland National Museum, where the world-famous Greenland mummies are kept.

– mighty glaciers and prolific wildlife along the coast of Greenland including walrus, whales, seals and bears

The cruise ends in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, on July 24, 2021.

Beginning in Reykjavik, Iceland, on July 12, 2021, the ‘In the wake of the Vikings’ package includes one night’s pre-cruise accommodation in Reykjavik and an 11-night cruise from Iceland to Greenland. Until June 1, 2020, Adventure Canada and Cruise Traveller are offering a 15 per cent discount for bookings, with fares now starting at US$6135 per person, twin-share, including the saving. Solo travellers can also sail from US$6135 with no single supplement (cabin categories 3-7). Conditions apply and the offers are subject to availability. Fares include all shipboard meals and Zodiac excursions. Flights from Australia are extra.

New relaxed booking conditions until June 30, 2020

New bookings made until June 30, 2020, can be made with a reduced non-refundable deposit of US$500 per person (was $1000 pp).  Until June 30, 2020, a flexible transfer policy also allows travellers to transfer their booking up to 121 days prior to departure to another Adventure Canada departure, or select a future travel credit, with an alternative departure available within 30 months of the original expedition date. Conditions apply.
