Over 60,000 race horse owners, trainers and racing fans welcomed Expo 2020’s thrilling national engagement programme with an array of colorful and entertaining pursuits at this weekend’s Dubai World Cup. Using knowledge about the Emirati word for ‘welcome’, the #Hayyakum2020 drive looks forward to stir the entire country and step up excitement and national pride as the UAE gets ready to host 190 nations and millions of visitors from October 2020.

Motivated by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, of greeting the world in an exemplary venue, Dubai World Cup is a focal point of the UAE’s sporting and entertainment calendar, drawing attention of tens of thousands of attendees each year and outreaching a global TV audience of 300 million.

The 24th edition of the Dubai World Cup held at the world-class Meydan Race course offered a rare setting for the first time in a number of public #Hayyakum2020 actions, which will also consist of open events on site, opportunities for everyone (starting from government entities and businesses, to schools and families) to display their #Hayyakum2020 spirit, and family festivals across the emirates.

Attendees for the Dubai World Cup, witnessed the participation of 109 horses from 13 nations, enjoyed a taste of the rich and various entertainment that Expo 2020 would be going  to offer, with dancers and other entertainers from a diverse range of cultures mirroring the many countries that will take part in the Expo.

The #Hayyakum2020 lounge and large 3D cut-outs of the Hayyakum2020 hashtag across the venue also raised awareness of Expo’s exciting new drive, and motivated race goers to show what the word ‘hayyakum’ meant for them.

Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, stated that in not less than 18 months, people and nations from across the world will be landing in the UAE for what is going to be a truly notable World Expo.  Reem stated that between now and October 2020, they are going to inspire everyone, irrespective of age, nationality or background, to adopt #Hayyakum2020 and join us as we prepare to welcome the world.”
