Extend your Viking Mississippi cruise in Memphis

July 15, 2020 River Cruising No Comments Email Email

Although international travel is currently on hold during this time, this has not stopped keen Australian and New Zealand travellers from booking ahead.

As you may have seen Viking has revealed that they have received strong demand for their newly established 2022 Mississippi River Cruises and have announced the opening of sales for 2023.

One stop featured across two of the fast-selling Mississippi cruises – Heart of the Delta and America’s Great River – is the southern city of Memphis. Known for its rich history of music, food and civil rights, Memphis has something for everyone to enjoy.

While a tour of Graceland is included on a day trip, there is an opportunity to further explore this city’s diverse offering. Why not venture out to Shelby Farms Park to explore 4,500 acres of greenery and hire a bike to discover over 40 miles of trails, take a step back in time and uncover the history of the civil rights movement at the location of Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination at the National Civil Rights Museum, sit in Elvis’ booth at The Arcade Restaurant and enjoy a delicious lunch or watch the world renowned Peabody Duck march at the Peabody Hotel?

The city of Memphis is also teeming with music history and is a must for music lovers of all genres. Being the home to blues music and boasting a historic rock ’n’ roll and RNB scene, you can explore the recording facilities at Sun Studios or take a tour of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. If live music is more your scene then head down to Beale St to take in the tunes from their wide range of bars and clubs including Rum Boogie Cafe and B.B. King’s Blues Club.

With a little something for everyone and a trip down the Mississippi by boat on the cards, now is the time for travel agents to begin planning their client’s Memphis escape and extending their time in this southern city. With these Viking trips planned for 2022 and 2023, we hope that travel will be back to its normal operation with enthusiastic Australian and New Zealand travellers ready to venture outside their borders.
