Fill your heart with Ireland online

June 1, 2020 Visit Europe No Comments Email Email

Tourism Ireland is harnessing the creativity of people around the island of Ireland to create compelling short content that captures the culture, landscape, music, cuisine, history and storytelling tradition of the island.

The idea is to share the content with the world via social media using #FillYourHeartWithIreland to connect people with the island of Ireland and lift their spirits at this difficult time.

The campaign covers a range of themes to bring the best of Ireland into people’s homes – from enjoying a traditional music session to learning how to Irish dance, taking a virtual tour of towns and villages, listening to the words of poets and playwrights or even enjoying a cookery demonstration, a piece of art or a fun TikTok video.

So far the campaign has shared a variety of inspirational content including a short, behind-the-scenes film created during filming for the highly successful TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s popular novel Normal People.

There has also been a series of intimate gigs presented by Other Voices, Ireland’s longest-running contemporary music festival and TV series. The Courage gigs deliver uplifting performances from brilliant artists, capturing the unique atmosphere of a live performance.

The unique flavours of Ireland were shared by chef Kevin Dundon from Dunbrody House in Ireland’s Ancient East, who demonstrated how to make perfect scones, while jazz fans got to listen to performances from the City of Derry’s virtual jazz festival.

And a poem by Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney, read by his wife, transported listeners to the beauty of County Clare on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Our message to people everywhere is that, as soon as you can travel again, our spectacular scenery, rich heritage and warm welcome will be waiting – until then, you can dream of, and plan, your future holiday. We want to bring #FillYourHeartWithIreland onto people’s screens and make them smile. Our aim is to keep the beauty of the island of Ireland to the fore and to showcase our authentic home-grown talent. While we may not be able to travel just now, we hope to inspire people for their future visit.”

Over the coming weeks, Tourism Ireland will share more content with its millions of fans and followers on its social channels – including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter – so look out for #FillYourHeartWithIreland and enjoy a little Irish love.
