Whether you’re looking to plan a holiday with the kids or a romantic weekend away, there’s always something new to try on the Sunshine Coast.

From luxury accommodation in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland to a new Indigenous experience in Mooloolaba, here’s five reasons why you should stop dreaming and start planning your next Sunshine Coast escape.

  1. New Indigenous experience with Saltwater Eco Tours

Learn the stories, traditions and culture of the Sunshine Coast regions first eco custodians, the Kabi Kabi people, on board Saltwater Eco Tours. This newly launched Indigenous experience highlights sites of cultural significance and places where Dreamtime stories and songs originated, with guests also invited to sample bush-tucker inspired catering including fresh local seafood. The tour takes place on board a restored century-old sailing vessel called Spray of the Coral Coast and is the vision of Simon Thornalley, a young Indigenous man of Torres Strait Island descent. Saltwater Eco Tours also offer Sunset Tours and Private charters.

2. Spicers Clovelly Estate opens Montville House

If you’re looking to cosy up by the fireplace with a nice glass of red, eat delicious food and truly relax – Spicers Clovelly Estate has just the ticket. In June, this luxury Sunshine Coast Hinterland property opened the doors to Montville House; a provincial style stand-alone accommodation house offering six-rooms available for individuals or sole use for up to 12 guests. Montville House features a communal guest lounge with an open fireplace, and each suite has its own ensuite with a freestanding limestone bath. Surrounded by 22 acres of lush, landscaped grounds and just steps away from the highly awarded Long Apron Restaurant and Spicers Clovelly Lodge, Montville House is perfect for those romantic weekends away.

  1. New distillery bottles ‘the Coast spirit’

The Big Pineapple precinct has welcomed their latest edition with the opening of CAVU Distilling; the proud makers of Sunshine & Sons Original Dry Gin and Original Vodka or ‘The Coast Spirit’. Their Original Dry Gin is infused with native botanicals while the pure, clear vodka is filtered through Sunshine Coast sourced volcanic rock to add extra depth, texture, and uniqueness. To top it off, they are currently barrel-ageing organic molasses rum for release in 2022. Visitors are welcome every weekday 10am-5pm and at their Cellar Door each Saturday 10am-5pm for a tour, tastings, and bottle sales.

4. Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort opens ‘splashtastic’ new waterpark

Looking to plan an unforgettable family holiday? Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort in Caloundra has opened a new waterpark that – complete with three water slides – is perfect for those warm Sunshine Coast days. Parents can relax poolside on the timber lounge decks, making it the perfect mix of relaxation and high-octane fun. Set on five acres in the heart of Caloundra, Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort is just moments away from the sparkling waters of the Pumicestone Passage, grassy seaside picnic spots and the coastal pathways of Caloundra.

5. New market opens in Maroochydore CBD

A new weekly market has launched at The Metropolitan (MET) within the new Maroochydore CBD on the Sunshine Coast. StrEATside market – held each Sunday from 11am to 8pm – offers street food, drinks, live music and lawn games, with a dedicated picnic area complete with soft blankets and shade umbrellas. Vendors include Chilli Sisters, Flavours of Brazil, That Pizza Guy, Gopal’s Pure Vegetarian and Harri Dumplings, as well as coffee, ice cream and donut vans.
