Spread the love

The Northern Cape’s Namaqua region is famous for its bloom of flowers during the months of August and September, which cover the terrain in a carpet of colour. The landscapes of towns such as Springbok, Kamieskroon and Nababeep become covered by differently coloured flowers at this time of the year.

Flower hotspots

Namaqualand’s spring flowers are highly regarded. In an article, The Telegraph included the region in one of the 20 greatest destinations on Earth for flowers.

Namaqua National Park

The Namaqua National Park offers two of the best flower-viewing hotspots in the region.

The Beach Flower Camp has gorgeous vygies and hardy succulents. Carpets of glorious pink, purple, mauve and magenta adorn the vast landscapes of the park. Alternatively, visitors can opt for the Skilpad Flower Camp.

Other places where visitors can tour the dramatic landscapes of the Northern Cape and view its succulents and transient flower display include Steinkopf, Springbok and Calvinia.

Tankwa Karoo National Park

If you’re in search of solitude, then escape to secluded cottages in Tankwa Karoo National Park. The park offers isolated Elandsberg cottages, furnished with everything you’ll need for a remote weekend in the wild. The park also has a number of self-drive routes that offer great views and scenery.
