Forbes Travel Guide—the only independent global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants and spas—continues its international expansion with the opening of the company’s new office in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jeff Rosenberg, an industry veteran with more than 40 years of executive hospitality leadership experience, heads up the office as Vice President, Partner Services in Africa. Prior to joining Forbes Travel Guide, Rosenberg spent three decades as a general manager for numerous properties throughout southern Africa, including The Lost City at Sun City; Sabi River Sun Resort in Hazyview, Mpumalanga; and most recently, Southern Sun Waterfront in Cape Town. He also has managed sprawling golf and entertainment resorts, timeshare properties and casino hotels in the area.

Rosenberg is heavily involved in the civic side of the industry as well, serving on many hospitality, tourism and educational association boards along with advisory committees. He is chair of the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa, the national trade association for the hospitality sector. Through his work at FEDHASA, he has led initiatives such as water conservation by ultra-luxury hotels in drought-prone areas, among others. In addition, he was chairman of the Cape Town Hotel School’s Management Board from 2012 to 2018.

Some of Rosenberg’s other career highlights include helping arrange the presidential inauguration of Nelson Mandela in 1994 and coordinating The Lost City at Sun City’s opening and year-end events, which featured electronic music composer Jean-Michel Jarre and the first Miss World pageant in Africa.

“We are excited to expand further into Africa’s rich and varied hospitality market,” said Filip Boyen, Forbes Travel Guide’s CEO. “Forbes Travel Guide has been verifying luxury for more than 60 years, and we look forward to sharing the finest properties in the region with consumers.”

Forbes Travel Guide will unveil its debut ratings in Cape Town and Johannesburg in February 2020. The company rates properties in 77 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific, and added destinations such as Anguilla, Bahrain, Belize, Danang, Doha, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, Istanbul, Oman, Perth, the Swiss Alps, Tel Aviv and Uruguay in 2019.
