Tokyo visitors can look forward to an extra spark of excitement when visiting the metropolis this late summer, thanks to the latest trends that have been taking the city’s thriving bar scene by storm.

Whilst beer gardens have long been a popular pillar of Tokyo’s entertainment culture, the capital’s bar appeal is quite literally reaching new heights with an increasing number of rooftop beer and champagne bars and gardens making for the ultimate Tokyo summer night (or day) to remember.

“Tokyo is always at the forefront when it comes to responding to the latest trends. It’s innovation and dynamism backed with a deep-routed tradition of service and hospitality that have earned the city’s world-class bar scene international acclaim and made it the Tokyo it is today” says Alison Roberts-Brown, former long term Tokyo resident and Director of the Tokyo Tourism Representative Office-Sydney.

From chic bohemian to glamping-themed, here are the “Top 5 Drinks in the Sky” to be had in Tokyo this summer:

LAND Meat Centre at Lumine Shinjuku, Lumine 1: This rooftop beer garden atop Shinjuku Station is a chic bohemian-themed refuge. As you chill in the scenic garden, enjoy a luxurious yakiniku (grilled meat) meal—along with your choice from over 20 types of cocktails. Meal options start at 4,800 yen per person. For a slightly more unique experience, you can wine and dine in a glamping-themed tent for 10,000 yen.

Rooftop Botanical Beer Garden at Tokyo Afrodite: Tokyo Afrodite offers a unique rooftop beer garden experience. Course menus start at 5,000 yen per person, and are organic health-conscious, low-carb, and rich in vitamins and protein. Don’t forget to treat yourself to the most popular drink, the colour-changing butterfly pea lemonade.

Champagne Garden at Hotel Chinzanso: Enjoy free-flowing champagne of the highest quality—Moet & Chandon, Mumm Grand Cordon, Taittinger, and more. Say cheers from the top of the renowned Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo as you nibble on a variety of gourmet hors d’oeuvres.

Takao Beer Mount: At an elevation of 500 meters, this is the highest beer garden in Tokyo. Admire the skyscrapers or gaze up to the stars as you enjoy expansive views from the venue’s terrace or garden. Beer Mount has an all-you-can-drink, all-you-can-eat system.

Sekirei Beer Terrace: Sekirei is a beer terrace located in the gardens of the Meiji Memorial Hall offering an uninterrupted view of the sky, making you forget that you’re in the middle of a massive city. Twice a day you can enjoy various performances, including traditional Japanese dancing and live concerts.
