Travel agents were recently treated to a taste of Nepal, through G Adventures Microfamils in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Nepal expert and CEO (Chief Experience Officer), Suman Khatri, was on hand to guide over 30 agents around their own cities, sharing insights into his home country of Nepal and G Adventures’ various styles of travel styles on offer in Nepal.

G Adventures Microfamils are designed to educate agents on tours available in Nepal as well  as the unique experiences available through G’s various styles of travel, through taking them outside of the traditional training presentation and offering a hands-on learning experience.

The groups of ‘travellers’ – made up of a mix of STA, Helloworld, MTA, Travel Managers and others –  explored each city with Nepal highlights in mind. Beginning their tours with a steep hike, Brisbane agents conquered the Story bridge climb, Perth agents tackled Jacob’s Ladder to Kings Park, and Melbourne agents made it to the top of the Southern Cross railway station stairs, while Sydney agents took a more relaxed approach discovering G Adventures’ wellness tour with a morning yoga class.

“While G loves taking agents away on Adventurous educationals it’s not always possible to fly 10 people to Nepal.” says Global Purpose Specialist, Cam McDonell, who was along to help out in Brisbane. “Having one of our amazing CEO’s from the region in town, it was a great opportunity to take a different spin on destination training, and use our imaginations, to discuss examples and tips for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, or Langtang regional treks in Nepal.”

For lunch agents visited G for Good project SASANE: Sisterhood of Survivors project in Pokhara (or, Chilli Everest in Melbourne, the Muglan in Sydney and Funky Momos in Perth) to learn about the grassroots organization that trains survivors of human-trafficking to become certified paralegals and taste test traditional Nepalese Momos.

Melbourne and Sydney agents experienced the dazzling views from Everest Basecamp (or, Westfield Tower and Eureka Tower respectively,) Suman ensured all of them made it to the top with tips on dealing with altitude.

“By the end it was 43 degrees in Perth! Despite ‘trekking’ in 35 degree heat the agents all had an amazing day and learned so much, not just about Nepal and G Adventures but also about the impact of Planeterra in Nepal” says Global Purpose Specialist, Lisa Burge.

The Microfamils were a huge hit, with agents reporting that they came away feeling inspired, and more comfortable to sell Nepal to their clients after getting a much better idea of the culture, history and trekking in this fascinating part of the world.
