GainingEdge today announced Vinícius Ribeiro da Silva from the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil as the newest GainingEdge Scholar recipient. Vinícius will be the third student to receive a scholarship since the program was launched in 2018 as part of the company’s commitment to the industry.
The GainingEdge Scholar program recognizes the importance of providing meaningful work experiences to students who wish to pursue careers in the business events industry and who demonstrate outstanding potential for future industry leadership. One student serves as the GainingEdge Scholar for one year, and works with the GainingEdge team on a project which will accomplish the following:
Make a significant contribution to the industry
Deliver a meaningful work/learning opportunity to the student
Help the student to gain practical industry experience
Provide a strong addition to the achievements section of the student’s CV
Connect the student to an industry network that will help them pursue a successful career
Starting July 20th, Vinícius will begin work on a year-long project that will benefit the Latin American business events industry. GainingEdge and the Asociación CVB’s LATAM & El Caribe have agreed on a project to assess the business case for the creation of the ‘Academic Institute for the Development of the Business Meetings Industry’ in Latin America. GainingEdge will work on the project on a pro-bono basis while providing mentorship to Vinícius, who will have a central role in helping to determine how best to set up the Institute.

Vinícius explains: “The project will determine what is realistic and achievable for the Institute in its aim to enhance the industry through training and education, impact measurement, and big data. My role will be to conduct research, interview industry leaders and help prepare reports and recommendations. This will be a tremendous opportunity for me to apply my knowledge in practice, to be in contact with business events professionals in Latin America, and conduct research that is relevant and timely.”

Jon Sivertson, CEO of GainingEdge, says: “Vinícius really impressed us amongst the many highly qualified applicants for this year’s program. He will join our growing community of GainingEdge Scholars who are already making a difference in the business events industry as they develop in their career path.”

Silvana Biagiotti, President of the Asociación CVB’s LATAM & El Caribe, adds: “We are extremely pleased to have been asked by GainingEdge to be part of this project. It will assist our organization with important findings to help improve professionalism in our industry while providing a student with a tremendous opportunity to learn and grow.”
