Green Safaris, the owners of the beautiful Kaya Mawa lodge on Likoma Island, have launched some ‘baby elephant initiatives’ to protect their local environment and communities whilst the world is suffering from the coronavirus pandemic.

Green Safaris is currently ramping up their efforts to support their neighbouring vulnerable, growing communities and wild spaces until they too can grow to be as strong, capable, and gorgeous as an elephant.

Kaya Mawa remains open at the moment. The team provide vital employment in a very vulnerable part of the world, but if it seems at any point that this decision is a danger to the team or local guests, they will immediately close and find a way to support their staff.

Here are some of the initiatives the Green Safaris team are currently undertaking:

  • Taking steps to protect staff and communities with a proactive education initiative and delivery system for basic necessities
  • The team are taking to the roadside, cleaning up the neighbourhood to make it safer for the wild neighbours and beautiful for guests
  • Providing training and education to the locals including craftsmanship
